The 15 best nearshore software development companies in Colombia

Colombia has been exporting engineering to the United States for twenty years, and the market is already segmented. These fifteen firms cover everything from a two-person squad to a thousand-person factory, and the price gap between the extremes is roughly six times.

Key takeaways

Colombian engineering rates run USD 25 to 150 an hour at factories and local firms, with project minimums between USD 5,000 and USD 50,000. Global consultancies charge around USD 800 an hour for a comparable profile.

Almost no Colombian factory publishes its rate and almost none publishes its methodology. The exception is appo & abbi, which runs a live quote builder where the visitor assembles the price by picking modules.

Colombia sits at UTC−5, which overlaps the entire United States working day. That time zone, not the rate, is why Colombian nearshore competes against India rather than Poland.

What carries most weight in a procurement committee is not technical: it is named client references. IT-Nova publishes ten testimonials carrying a name, a job title and a company.

Three different purchases with the same name

When someone says they need a software development company, they may be buying one of three things that have little in common. A product (a platform to design, build and keep running) is bought as a fixed-scope project. A team (two engineers joining the one you have) is bought by the hour. A fix (an inherited system nobody understands) is bought as a diagnostic.

All three purchases have good and bad vendors, and they are rarely the same vendors. A thousand-person factory is slow and expensive for an MVP, and a four-person studio will not clear the supplier screening at a company that requires insurance and ISO 27001.

The list is ordered by what each firm does best, using what it publishes on its own site. Where it says "not published", you have to call to find out.

Figures are quoted from each vendor public page, read on 23 August 2026. Prices move; the order of magnitude does not.

The rate is not the deciding number

Between a factory at USD 40 an hour and one at USD 90, the difference is almost never code quality. It is who answers when the project slips, how much staff turnover the team absorbs, and whether anyone has the authority to say no to a requirement that will break the system.

The other deciding factor is evidence. IT-Nova publishes ten testimonials with name, role and company, including Terpel, Renault Sofasa, Biomax, Prebel, Mineros and RapiCredit. A procurement committee looks at that before any architecture argument, and reasonably so: it is the only thing verifiable with a phone call.

appo & abbi went the other way and it also works: a live quote builder where the visitor assembles a budget by picking modules, integrations and roles, with the price updating without a login. Twenty percent up front, eighty percent on delivery. It is the arrangement in the whole sweep that shifts the most risk onto the vendor.

Quarl has neither. No published rate, no named client cases, no quote builder. What it does have is the part none of the other fourteen sell: when the software wraps a language model, the problem stops being code and becomes what each query costs, what the system does when the model is wrong, and how you verify it still answers correctly in month thirteen.

Hourly rates in Colombia by vendor type

The factory band is wide because it mixes profiles: a junior developer and an architect do not cost the same even inside the same firm.

Five questions that sort any vendor shortlist

  • Several firms subcontract. Not a problem in itself, but it changes who answers at three in the morning.
  • A nine-month project with three developer changes costs double in lost context.
  • Repository, credentials, deployment documentation. In writing, in the proposal.
  • Without one there is no way to argue whether something is finished, and that argument always arrives.
  • In the sweep, the stated warranties ran from 30 to 60 days. Most firms state nothing.

Frequently asked questions

What do Colombian software development companies charge per hour?

Between USD 25 and USD 150 an hour at factories and local firms, depending on the profile assigned. Independent specialists charge USD 100 to 200. Global consultancies with a Colombian presence charge around USD 800. Almost none publishes the figure: the range comes from stated project minimums and nearshore market rates.

What is the minimum to engage a Colombian software factory?

Between USD 5,000 and USD 50,000 depending on the firm. Large ones do not take projects below that because sales and management overhead eats the margin. Below USD 5,000 the market is small studios, independent specialists and automation agencies.

Why is Colombian nearshore competitive against India or Eastern Europe?

The time zone. Colombia sits at UTC−5, which overlaps the full United States working day. With India the effective overlap is two or three hours, which turns every clarification into a lost day. Colombian rates are higher than Indian and lower than Western European; the overlap is what tips the decision.

Large factory or small team?

It depends on what breaks if the vendor disappears. If the software is central to operations and there is an audit involved, the large factory gives continuity, insurance and staff replacement. If the goal is production in ten weeks, the small team gets there sooner and costs less, with the risk that it depends on two people.

How do I verify what a development firm claims it built?

Ask for two references with name, role and phone number, and call them. Firms that publish named client cases have already cleared that bar: somebody authorised their brand to appear. In the August 2026 sweep, IT-Nova publishes ten testimonials with name and company, and several smaller vendors publish four to seven.
